The Catholic Church assigns the whole month of November as a special time for prayer and good works to commend the Faithful Departed to our Heavenly Father. The Philippine Jesuits remember the departed loved ones in their prayers, Masses, and apostolic labors.

Our acceptance of death means our acceptance of what is really worthwhile in life, a listening to a constant call to a brightness shedding light over the darkness of concupiscence.

Ignatius’s conversion story remains deeply relevant for us today. He left a template to help us remain hopeful, brave, and joyful in today’s uncertain world. I will attempt to summarize this template into two movements: a) surrendering the ego, and b) awakening to grace.
